Marma Point Therapy
Marma Point Therapy is the ancient Indo-Tibetan counterpart to Acupressure in Chinese Medicine. Historically, however, Marma Point Therapy is the oldest of the two great oriental energetic therapies. The word marma means "vital energy point' and refers to unique points of energy located throughout the human body. Each marma has a receptor point on the skin that correlates with specific chakras, organs, and tissues through which prana (vital energy) passes. Marma points are treated much like Acupressure points in that we can apply pressure to these points in order to stimulate, inhibit, or re-balance the body's organ networks and thereby assist the restoration of health and well-being. To this end, marma point therapy also employs a number of medicated herbal oils, essential aromatic oils, and other balancing oils to thoroughly harmonise the body's energy.
This course will introduce you to the practice of Marma Point Therapy and Indian Head Massage. Both of these techniques emerged within the broader context of Ayurvedic medicine, and as such, this course will also include a basic overview of Ayurveda itself. Here, our aim is to emphasise the fundamentals of the Ayurvedic approach to bodily, mental, and spiritual balance. By approaching Marma Therapy and Indian Head Massage in this way, you will establish a firm foundation for understanding these practices in their proper, holistic contexts.
