Diversional Therapy - Arts and Crafts
This course supports students to develop essential skills in improving the satisfaction, quality of life, and well-being of elderly clients through the provision of recreational arts and crafts activities. The course begins with a comprehensive overview of diversional therapy (also therapeutic recreation), its principal philosophy, methods, and health benefits, and guides students through the process of planning and implementing an effective diversional therapy program. The remainder of the course offers a comprehensive, instructional exploration of a set of over twenty diverse arts and crafts projects which may be implemented (with appropriate adaptations) by a diversional therapist to benefit clients in an aged care setting. The projects discussed include: paper, fabric, needle and yarn crafts; simple drawing and painting; modelling, weaving and beading; traditional home crafts and edible crafts.
