Arts and Crafts for Relaxation
The positive relationship between recreational activities - such as arts and crafts - and stress reduction is well-documented. This course guides students to understand the use of therapeutic arts and crafts to produce a diverse range of positive effects on physical and psychological well-being. This course begins with an overview of the phenomena of stress, and a discussion of the importance of mitigating stress. The remainder of the course offers a comprehensive, instructional exploration of a set of more than twenty diverse arts and crafts projects which may be implemented to reduce stress and promote relaxation. The projects discussed include: paper, fabric, needle and yarn crafts; simple drawing and painting; modelling, weaving, and beading; traditional home crafts, and edible crafts.
